2010 Census

Census LogoImportance of the U.S. Census

Did you know that Richfield loses federal funding as a result of an undercount of our population in the census?

What is the 2010 Census?

During these tough economic times, it is even more crucial to have a complete and accurate count of our population. For every person counted, the federal government allocates $1000 per person per year for 10 years and this money goes directly back to the community where the individuals live, work, and raise a family.

  • The Census is a count of all residents living in the United States.
  • The Census is mandated by the U.S. Constitution.
  • The Census is taken every 10 years.
  • The 2010 Census will take place on April 1, 2010.
  • Census questionnaire forms will be sent to every address in the nation.
  • For the first time in history, it will take less than 10 minutes to complete the form.

Be Counted

A complete and accurate count:

  • Determines how federal dollars are distributed back to communities
  • Impacts the development of new businesses, highways, and schools
  • Affects hospital services, health programs, and public transportation
  • Determines the number congressional seats per state and how many representatives we have in Congress who can advocate on our behalf
